The options for the alarm sounds are wonderful: Canon, which is a lovely classical music bit, is so gentle to wake up to, as are the others, a little soft kenny g, a chinese folksong - which is surprisingly nice, plus a few others, and of course there is a standard beeping one. You can also adjust the level of volume of the one you choose with easy, simple turn knobs on the front. The clock face is not lit unless in the middle of the night you wake up and want to see the time, in that case you just touch the top of the clock button, the clock will light up for a couple seconds so you can see the time, then it goes dark again. The only thing to remember is when you set the alarm and time dials on the back of the clock, make sure to go in the direction of the arrows when setting the time, or the alarm time, otherwise it can damage the clock. The arrows are small so look carefully. I put on my cheaters and could see the arrows just fine. You know how you wish they would design products that have really well thought out options. This clock is one of them. Kudos to whom ever designed this. I might buy a second one to have on hand in case they stop making these. They include 3 AA batteries. It doesn't stay on all night, just briefly when bar is pressed. **Q: Does the alarm go off every day or is there a Monday through Friday setting?** A: There is an on/off switch, if it is in the on position the alarm goes off. It does not go by days. You have to manually put the switch to the "on" position for it to go off. So if you need it to go off Monday-Friday you will have to manually put it in the "on" position FIVE times. **Q: I am a heavy sleeper. Most of these battery alarm clocks aren't loud enough to wake me. Could you hear the alarm across a bedroom? 14'x14'** A: I would think so. I use hearing aids which I remove when I go to bed and without them by hearing is pretty bad.. I have the alarm volume set in the middle of the indicator and the clock is on my nightstand next to my bed and I have no problem hearing it. I tried setting the wake up sound on the "beep" and put the volume control on high and went into my hallway about 12' away and it is very loud and gets louder if you don't turn it off.
