Apart from 30 quid?** A: The 107 does a rough loop test ,green for less than 1.8 ohms ,and a mains reversed test.Also most usefully is the RCD test. It's great for turning the right circuit off on poorly labelled boards.If your regularly work on maintenance it worth every penny in time saved and annoyed customers . **Q: used this only a few times and now and suddenly the amber on the earth keeps flashing in every socket i try?** A: It may just be that the socket is old or the earth connections are loose. I’ve replaced the sockets that had amber light and now they’re fine. **Q: Does this tester ever need calibrated?** A: No. It should only be used to confirm polarity and earth continuity plus the correct operation of RCDs. For BS7671 testing a calibrated instrument should be used giving the trip time in milli-seconds. It should be checked periodically against a known source for future use. **Q: Is this more suited for a professional electrician?** A: This is a handy piece of kit to have in your tool box in my view whether you're a professional electrician or DIY - provided you know what your doing. Simple to Use. *by M***A on 1 July 2025* At £36.50 this was the cheapest tester I could find that included an Earth Loop Impedance check. Extremely simple to use: plug it in and turn the socket on. Green lights and continuous tone = good. Anything else bad - see enclosed leaflet. Won't trip the power unless you press the RCD test button (which is specifically to test tripping the RCD.) From another forum: less than 1.8 ohm loop impedance is considered good (green). 1.8 to 100 ohm. amber.
