The train works really well having both a forward and reverse action using a switch on the top. The battery life is really good and the train has a small light of the front which adds a nice affect. I bought the Sainsbury's wooden track and the hape engine worked fine with it. Hope that's some help. **Q: Mine ran out of batteries after 1 hour of good usage.
