It is one of the stand out presents from my childhood and I thought I'd share it with my son. I remember fondly the crazy times we had whacking hippos to make them swallow as many balls as possible and was looking forward to reliving this experience. It's been fun and our four year old has really taken to it. It's pretty sturdy and has already taken one hell of a pounding. However it is irritating that every now and again the mouths of the hippos get jammed wide open and the game has to be stopped for 30 seconds of frustrated jaw manipulation. As another reviewer states, the game does not fit back in the box and aside from using brute force the hippos will not detach from the base.
