Assume because its so big. Is your grit large?** A: Our hens are about 18 months old and take a bit of this mixed grit but some of the larger stuff is ignored. We do not seem however to be getting the problems with soft shells that we used to get with our last batch of free range ex-commercial layers. This product seems to consist of small stones with a small amount of crushed sea shells. The stones end up on the floor with the hens only ingesting the sea shells. I will not buy this product again. **Q: I have read it can be used to reduce the acidity of ponds. Do you agree?** A: Hi regards your question, I know that the contents of the bags have a lot of shells broken into small pieces with the grit. The shells provide Calcium whilst breaking down, so potentially would help to reduce acidity. Charcoal is much better, but perhaps your aware of this ?
