Review: Fantastic Quality - The reason I bought this was the combination of a digital level and a digital angle measurer in one device. It seems expensive but if you add up the combined cost of an inclinometer and an angle measurer then the pair are a lot more expensive than the Bosch. As an added bonus, the Bosch has a laser in it too. Comes well packed, with a really nice ( expensive looking ) case, and also an extension piece ( leg ) that extends in the opposite direction to the main arm so you can measure angles where the main arm would not fit. The strange thing about the leg is that it arrives in a pocket in the case rather than being attached to the level and it’s short so you can’t really leave it on the level all the time. There is no automatic calculation of the correct angle using the leg here and you need to do a calculation in your head. Talking about strange things, there is a long thin manual provided that doesn’t fit in the long thin case. There is a clever calibrate function that requires a flat but not level surface to calibrate the level. You simply press the cal 1 button, rotate the level to face the opposite direction then press cal 2. Very clever. I am sure you can work out what Mitr1 is, it displays a simple mitre calculation for the angle you just measured. Mitr2 is a compound calculation for such things as coving. I never did understand how that works and my brain explodes even thinking about it. If you placed all the incorrectly cut coving end to end from my career it would reach to the moon. Maybe that will stop now, although somehow I doubt it. I don’t know whether I will actually use the mitre function, I have my handy Festool that works in easier to understand pictures rather than those techie Bosch numbers. The times I will use the Bosch when I actually need to know what the numbers are. You can hardly tell someone on the phone that the angle is in the middle of the green thingy and slightly to the left of the black thingy. Another really nice feature is the displayed characters all flip upside down when you turn the level upside down, so no matter what position it is in they are easy to read. If you can’t read it for any reason then just hit the Hold button. As yet I am not actually sure what I will use the laser for. I guess though it may be handy. Would help if Bosch supplied a small target but they don’t. I have a plan in my head to take a small piece of something and centre-punch a mark at the right height. The accuracy of 0.1 degree may sound impressive but actually it's not THAT good. A standard bubble level is that accurate. I would say that the Bosch is accurate to 1mm over it’s length. If you use the laser then that’s about 1.5mm per meter, or 1cm over the average room. But, having said that, I think that is more than accurate enough for most people. The main thing for me is the hold function and the fact that you don’t have to be viewing dead on to get an accurate reading like you do with a bubble level. It’s repeatable and gives clear indication. The angle measurement is a nice additional feature that is certainly worth paying a little extra for. It’s incredibly easy to read, unlike the traditional bubble, where you have to get your head in the right place and make a judgement call on whether the bubble is centre or not. Ultimately, that's what really makes it useful and is why I use it more than my traditional levels. The only downside to the level is there are some jobs its too large or too small for. Other than that, it's my go to. In my opinion buying a digital level is a must, and paying a little extra for the angle measurement is well worth it. You aren't buying this for accuracy, you are buying it because it's so much easier to read than a bubble level. Highly recommended.
Review: Expensive, but in my opinion worth it. - Beautifully made, robust, accurate and works very well. The faint high pitched whine mentioned by another reviewer is only the noise produced by the digital display inverter circuit, it does not signify a fault. Changing the 4 AA batteries is a simple exercise and there is never any need to zero the device, it’s always precisely calibrated.
