Very watchable! *by G***N on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 August 2017* Received this today, and have just finished watching it. Lumley does not disappoint, and this DVD is well up to the standard of her other ones (which I have). We hear about Joanna Lumley's late Uncle, and we get to see a photograph of him.But Lumley doesn't pull any punches- this is one of the things which makes this DVD so watchable. For instance, she is visibly upset, when she goes round to visit parents of a young worker who had the misfortune to be born as a member of the very bottom caste (even today) in India. He worked for about 3 years, and then the workers found out he was the lowest caste, and burnt him alive at the age of 20, about four years ago! Lumley makes the point that this is totally unacceptable and illegal, but it still happens! We see Lumley with the parents, who are coping as best they can with their horrific loss.We are also told how cows are thought of as very holy in India, and it is quite strange to see cows on the road along with the traffic. Lumley is also taken to a new high rise block of flats, and is taken up to the top so far by the construction workers. As she doesn't like heights, this was a very brave thing for her to do!We see the community spirit with the people, how India is developing. On the lighter side, we also see Joanna apply for a job at a call centre. She also said it made her respect people who work in Call Centres!If anyone is interested in India at all, then I would recommend this DVD as a good place to start. Subtitles very helpful! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Superb documentary *by J***Y on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 April 2021* Bought this for the better half who has been on about getting this for ages.This is Joanna Lumley at her best talking about India and seeing the highs and lows if the Country. We both wathed this on tv at the time but decided to get the dvd as the better half is uber keen on India.This was a superb documentary when we watched it at the time and is definitely worth buying on dvd. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Colourful, vibrant and a land of contrasts *by M***S on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 December 2017* As usual with these documentaries there is a charm and charisma about Joanna Lumley, and this was particularly obvious as her roots were in India. It was a personal quest, and her honesty and observant comments made the whole series fascinating. Such contrasts over a vast country. The music was appropriate and never overwhelmed the filming. The colours were breathtaking, but the most memorable section was when she met the Dalai Lama. What a sensible, widely read and respected person - and I am not religious.
