Is it a matt or glossy plastic?** A: Glossy. Pretty much the same as your average switch surround. The contrast is not too noticeable against some of the higher gloss switches due to the limited visible surface area. Certainly an easy trade off between digging out the brickwork to recess the back box and the raised profile of new light switch. **Q: Can these be used with other brands of sockets?** A: It could as the 1 gang (and 2 gang) face plates have the same hole centres for the screws. However the actual profile can be slightly different (square vs rounded corners) between socket brands and manufacturers so can look unsightly in say the living room where it may get noticed. Can also be a different shade of white as well. I bought to allow installation of a BG single USB socket as a temp fix whilst rewiring, where the backbox was not deep enough for the face plate. I have also used the double spacer for replacing a double socket with a RCD unit which was also too deep for the back box and I was unsure of the RCD brand. For the neatest installation, best to pick the spacer that matches the brand of the socket/outlet you have. I've used MK and Crabtree brands for swapping out sockets with USB versions and light switches for dimmers and have used their matching spacers rather than use these for a neater finish as the white colour and profiles match. Tbh I tried BG and Lap sockets from Screwfix that were cheaper and used these spacers, however the USB sockets went dead after some use. Best to stick to the better known and trusted brands. **Q: Do you do this in gray?** A: Not sure. I used this to provide more space so that I could install a smart switch, which tend to extend deeper behind the switch than a non-smart switch. I only needed 10mm and the options were limited. It does the job but be aware that (a) it has rounded corners and (b) it is slightly off white.
