The ability to select the amount of protection just by moving a slider is great. Others require you to remove the eraplugs and replace inserts for different levels of protection. That runs a risk of losing components, especially if you are at a concert and it's dark. I bought them for a concert and they were PERFECT. Did not degrade the sound at all. During a band's set i had them set to -24db, and in between bands I put them to -12db so I didn't risk losing them by constantly taking them out and putting back in. In -12db I could easily talk with those near me. Used them at an indoor monster truck show at -12db setting and was still able to hear my son talking without any trouble while still protecting my ears. Only two minor complaints that aren't enough to lower the rating. They are SMALL. VERY SMALL. So far I have chosen to not use the included tether and haven't lost them. But be warned, these things will be VERY easy to lose. The second thing is the relatively weak magnets. They should be stronger. If using the tether around your neck, the magnets are meant to keep them from falling off. They did not feel very secure. Review: Great sound, transparent. Buy them NOW. - First concert with these last night. I am amazed! these are virtually invisable sound wise. Even at the 24db setting. I have the top Loops. Earpeace, and Eargasm plugs. Along with several pairs of the knock offs. NONE of them come close to being as transparent as these! Voice are clear along with the full range of music. Every other earplug I have tried sounds muffled at some point. Most in the upper mids. No other plug handles bass as well as these. Bass sounds clean and tight. Nothing is muddled, no distortion that I can notice. Every other plug I have tried distorts the lowest notes from a bass guitar. These do not. Back ground for reference: I attend several concerts a month in various venues, indoors and out. I hate using the word audiofile, but I have a high end home system, high end desk top monitors (not what guitar center calls high end), and custom in ear monitors. I only use lossless or high bit mp3, or vinyl. So I am speaking from experience and I understand and am will to pay for god sound. THESE are GOOD SOUND. do not hesitate to buy them! Buy them now. But I have fairly large ears and use the medium sized ones. I tried the larger ones and the seal would frequently break. My kids use the over the ear style. I would recommend them unless there is a reason more than esthetics for the in ear style. WOW! What a difference! I realized at a show I was at recently that I was missing a lot because of my hearing protection. When my hero- an absolute legend in the rock world- came over on stage to talk to me- I missed most of what he said. So I began the search for new hearing protection. I liked the ability to change settings on these. At last weekend's show they were incredible- but unfortunately the attenuation wasn't quite enough (I was 4th row, DIRECTLY in FRONT of a bank of speakers). I had to put my other ones in. But for the first hour or so it was amazing. I will agree that it can be hard to find the correct positioning. When I came home from this weekend's show, I researched a little online and found a helpful tutorial that demonstrated how to properly position and fit them. NO Instructions come with the package. Also note that they are side specific. The inside of each bud is stamped into the plastic with a letter corresponding to the side it goes in, which you cannot see in a darkened club or stadium, so be sure that you put them in before going in.
