A: Yes, it tapers down from the handle to a sharp point.

**Q: Would this work for getting pyramid studs into leather?**
A: I don't know. I can say that it punctures leather very easily.

**Q: is the metal near the point smooth?**
A: No. It’s very sharp & can be dangerous if not careful.

**Q: What is the maximum diameter of this awl?**
A: pretty sure diameter is much less. I'd estimate about 1/8 in. but not exact.
