Review: Obsessed with this! - What a deal!! AMAZING ART, killer MGS 1- /2 story. Rad characters etc. all in a compact book you’ll love! I happily bought this even though I own all the single issues!
Review: Love it!! - I am, as some people may say, a diehard metal gear fan. I own every game made except for Ghost Babel, as well as a ton of merchandise. I didn't necessarily buy this book because I was really interested in a Metal Gear comic, but becase I am a huge fan of Ashely Wood's work. Ashely Wood did the cutecene artwork for Peace Walker as well as the lesser known Portable Ops, and has a really dynamic style that works very well both animated and static. I personally love how some sound effects in the comic go outside of the box and into the white border. It makes for a very enjoyable and exciting reading experience. I wouldn't call this a must-have if you aren't really a fan of the series, especially because it doesn't 100% follow the events of the two games the book is based on, but if you're a fan of Wood's work or you just love Metal Gear, it's definitely worth checking out.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Unconventional adaptation of first two MGS games (minor spoilers)
*by M***E on July 30, 2010*

This is a collection of all of the Metal Gear Solid comics by IDW publishing. It claims it's the "entire Metal Gear Solid saga" in the publisher's summary, but it's just the first two games. Until now, I'd only had the PSP digital comic version of MGS1, and had wanted a physical version to read without having to pan or worry about battery life, so I was intrigued when I heard about this omnibus version. It's about the same size vertically and lengthwise as the Dark Horse Omnibus collections, but with more content. If you're familiar with Ashley Wood's style, you know what to expect. The artwork is highly stylized, usually monochromatic, and frequently abstract. There are a few parts where I couldn't even tell what the picture was supposed to depict, but I guess that's the price you pay for true art. The story mostly follows what happens in both games, although certain liberties are taken. For example, a Psycho Mantis-induced dream sequence is added to MGS1, Snake takes on a few of Raiden's roles in MGS2 such as fighting Fatman and going after Emma, and Raiden is written as much more of an irreverent, annoyingly overconfident action hero-type character, even calling one of the bosses a "jagoff." Whether or not this is an improvement on the original character is up to you. The collection also includes "Sons of Liberty #0," which is basically a five-page comic about Snake shooting some guards then blowing up part of a train (oh, spoiler alert). There are no plans that I know of for such an adaptation of MGS3 or 4, although that would certainly be interesting (especially an adaptation of MG1 and 2). There are some references to MGS3 thrown into this version, such as a random interlude in which Ocelot argues with Liquid's arm about father issues as The Sorrow's ghost weighs in, which is sort of odd in light of MGS4. I was a bit disappointed that the adaptation of MGS2 seems to just be a direct version of the plot (with the aforementioned changes and a few omissions), without any of the fourth wall-bending (no "Close the book right now!" or anything like that) or examination of the audience that made the original so memorable, and arguably, was the entire point of the work. MGS1 also removes part of the player's version of the story as it combines both possible endings. I'd recommend this to fans who have played the games over and over and would appreciate a new look at the series that doesn't involve phrases like "Your niece is one wacky babe!" (I'm looking at you, MGS novelization).
