How much extra space does it use up with it on?** A: The big scratcher plate is at an angle and sticks out about 1 foot from the tree at the floor. I don’t know if it could be placed anywhere else. My cat only uses the smaller scratcher poles so you might not even need it **Q: Are cat den boxes held up inside by four flimsy columns that I have to stretch the fabric to fit inside ?** A: No, the 4 pillars are very strong and the fur fabric is already covering every part of it that’s not a scratching post. The whole thing is very solid and I have two cats that are all the time jumping in and out of it. There is a small tape to anchor it to a wall if needed but so far I haven’t needed it as it is very sturdy. It is brilliant. VERY robustly made, easy to follow instructions contained in the package. We bought our 6 cats the green coloured one, lovely shade of green. We bought this as a pressie for our kept litter of 4 kittens as they will be a year old later this month and it was well worth it. ALL 6 cats (including the kittens mum) love it (and it's only just been put together!!). They have yet to be brave enough to climb into the top resting platform. It is wonderfully soft to the touch. It really is everything you'll need for your kitten(s) up to large cat(s). It is extremely well made, easy to build, super quality and very sturdy. There is a safety strap attached to one of the houses so you can secure it safely to the wall. It has plenty for your fur babies to enjoy. The 2 houses will easily accommodate 2 large cats. The fabric is lovely and soft and looks and feels luxurious. I have 2 11 week old kittens (brothers) and they manoeuvre around it with ease. If you're looking for the perfect tree/tower then look no further, yes, it's a little more expensive than other tree/towers but it's absolutely worth every penny, you really do get what you pay for and I highly recommend it.
