## Overview

The Spyderco Amalgam C234CFP is a high-performance folding hunting knife featuring a 3.88-inch CPM S30V stainless steel drop-point blade. Its ergonomic handle combines carbon fiber and G-10 laminate with skeletonized stainless steel liners for lightweight durability and superior grip. Equipped with low-friction ball-bearing washers, it offers smooth, ambidextrous one-handed opening via a flipper or Spyderco’s signature Round Hole. With a versatile four-position clip and lined lanyard hole, the Amalgam adapts to any carry preference, making it a top choice for camping, hunting, and tactical use.

## Description

The Amalgam was designed from the ground up as a practical, versatile working knife that combined all the advantages of Spyderco's patented Compression Lock, a fully accessible Trademark Round Hole, and a flipper opener into one package. The brainchild of a college student named Brian Lai, the heart of the Amalgam is its broad, drop-point blade, which is full-flat ground from CPM S30V stainless steel. The PlainEdge blade rides on special low-friction ball-bearing washers contained within the ergonomic handle, which is constructed with nested, skeletonized stainless steel liners and textured carbon fiber/G-10 laminate scales. A four-position clip and lined lanyard hole provide convenient carry and allow the Amalgam to be brought into action quickly with either hand.

Review: My New Favorite Spyderco! - After almost 30 years of carrying one flavor of Endura or another, and purchasing a new one before each overseas deployment, I decided to stretch my legs a little and order the Amalgam as my current deployment knife. I couldn't be happier! This beautiful knife is very ergonomic and comfortable in hand, and the flat grind eases through most materials, especially food, better than a saber grind. The flipper is a nice feature, and with a little practice, can be opened or closed very quickly and neatly. The lock construction and placement took a little getting used to after years of working with Spyderco back locks, but the aforementioned practice makes short work of getting the hang of it. The quality of materials is top notch, and the overall design is very pleasing to the eye - uncluttered and clean. The carbon fiber/G10 scales are grippy and positive as well as aesthetically pleasing. One of the best features for my purposes is the extremely light weight of this very workmanlike and capable blade, along with the threaded inserts for positioning the pocket clip to the most favorable location on the scales. All in all, I would say that if you're looking for a knife that can do it all with style, the Amalgam is the one.
Review: Picked this over a couple much more expensive options. Glad I did. - Narrowed my purchase down to the Amalgam, Shaman, a protech, and a Chris Reeve. Glad I picked this one. I can't find a single issue worth mentioning, so I'll mention the three I've seen most in video reviews and forums: "The choil is too thin." It is thin, but not so much that it hurts to use. I have large (men's xl glove size) hands with long, thin fingers and the knife fits me perfectly, choil included. "The detent is too weak." The detent is dialed in well for being a flipper/thumb/spydie-open amalgamation, in my opinion. I haven't had it fall or shake open yet. "The flipper tab hits your fingers when you close it." Maybe the first few times you shut it, but it becomes second nature to move your finger as the blade falls shut. Practice for 2 minutes and you'll never have this issue. If you're still not convinced, Nick Shabazz has a good review you can look up. Lays out the pros and cons well.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Blade length**
A: Overall: 3.8 Edge: 3.4

**Q: How do you know you're not getting a counterfeit?**
A: I own a spyderco amalgam. I do not have a specific way to know if it is a counterfeit or not, but as it is an excelent knife but not one of the popular ones I cannot find a reason why would someone take the trouble to imitate it. And if someone did, I still would enjoy it very much, the worst thing that could happen is that you will strop on sharpen more often. enjoy.

**Q: Where is it made**
A: Taichung Taiwan. A premiere Spyderco plant that turns out some exceptional quality tools. I own over a dozen from this plant and I would buy again.

**Q: Spyderco trips me out. I want to like Spyderco so much and this with the features going for it. But why the boring flat grind??**
A: I am very happy with this folder
It is flat ground which makes it extremely sharp. I carry it as a potential self defense option. It’s never going to be used for utility by me. One of the possible limits of a flat ground is durability. So if you’ll be using it a lot for various chores, then maybe consider another blade structure.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The flipper length and feel is perfect. This knife is worth the cost
*by J***N on 1 May 2021*

CPM-S30V steel. I haven't had to sharpen it but it has spent a lot of time in my pocket in humid environments and it looks great. This blade is perfect. It has the obligatory Spyderco oversized thumb ring although it is much smaller than the standard, but the flipper that doubles as a grip-arrest is what sets this knife apart. This is a flipper for a big hand and it feels just right. It flips perfectly and the high liner lock is a very nice touch... and it works perfectly. This knife has all of the special touches. As I'm writing this it is already sold out and has been for a while. But if you buy one on the secondary market I hope you feel proud to own one, as I do.
