## Description

TP-Link 8 Port Gigabit Ethernet Network Switch

Review: So far, so good! - I’ve been using this connector several days now, and it’s working as expected. I’m using it plugged into a WiFi extender to hardwire our TV and PlayStation. This is giving us faster and more consistent connection. Even though we have fiber internet, the location it was installed in our house is not central, so we’ve had to do the extensions. And our Sony TV’s internal WiFi won’t keep a connection (a common issue for Sony TVs), and game downloads were taking too long as well as not being able to play a live game while downloading. This little box has fixed the issues. It really is just a plug-and-go item. Super easy and you don’t have to be techy to understand how it works. Keep in mind that one port will be dedicated to the WiFi box or extender, so buy the size you need accordingly. If you’ve got 6 devices to connect, you need at least 7 ports. I didn’t know what “looping” was, so after looking into it, I left that switch to “off.” It was not recommended, and warned of slowing speeds and mixing up devices. It’s working great so far. TV connection hasn’t faltered since switching to the box (and not directly into extender box). And the PlayStation downloaded a game in 5mins that, unwired, estimated 30mins! My husband was very happy. He then downloaded Cyberpunk 2077, which is a huge file. When he tried downloading it unwired, it quoted like half a day, lol. Hardwired, it took less than 1.5hrs, AND, at the same time, he was able to play a college football game that uses the network for live play. One thing to note: this did change our IP address, so when we went into Hulu after getting it connected, we got the “it looks like you’re not at home?” message. We had to “update our home location” even though we didn’t really move. You get 4 of these home changes a year, so just FYI. I’m sure Hulu is familiar with this and would work it out if you don’t have any home address changes left, but the hassle and time would be annoying. Overall, I couldn’t be more pleased. If this box stops working after a time, I’ll update my review. But for $12.50 on sale, it’s a steal. The box itself seems quality and well made. It’s got a weight to it and was packaged well. Definitely recommend.
Review: simple to use - I bought this TP-Link 5 port switch to add more Ethernet ports, and it worked right away. No setup needed, just plug and play. Speeds have been stable on my console, laptop, and TV with no issues. The metal build feels solid, and it runs completely silent since there’s no fan. It also stays cool even after being on for hours. It’s basic with no advanced settings, but for simple home use it does the job well. Good value for the price.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I don't see any ports labeled uplink for connection to my other switch does this mean it no capable of being connected as an expansion switch.**
A: The question is vague. Everyone else has answered the base question, but what might be implied is that a high end server-rack quality switch will have a port that is generally the next step up from the other ports, so in this case there would be a 10Gb port for the "uplink" so as to not bottleneck the other devices trying to make full use of the 1 Gb ports. The REALLY high end switches has a Fiber "uplink" port to completely eliminate such bottlenecks, but again, that is the realm of rack quality switches.
But yes, as everyone else stated, any port can be the uplink, usually it is the one closest to where that uplink goes. At work, I have an 8 port Gb switch. Port 8 is closest to the wall so I use that for the uplink and I use 1-7 for all my re-imaging tasks or users that need to connect to sort out a problem. For non-rack switches, you will always give up one port to the machine-gods and the rest to connect as you wish, so when shopping, always keep in mind your total ports needed equals "# of devices +1 (uplink)".

**Q: Does this switch support link aggregation ? Looking to hook up a decent Synology NAS which has two Ethernet ports to utilize the higher throughput.**
A: he TL-SG108E does support Link Aggregation. For more information on how to use this feature, please visit our official website to find the User Guide.

Regards,
TP-Link Support

**Q: I have a modem router combo and am out of ports, can I use the switch on this type of box? And if so, how do I hook it up?**
A: Yes you can. It is real easy to hook up. Hook a NIC (network) cable into one of the ports of the router and the other end plugs into the last port on the switch. You now have the rest of the ports to run other computers/smart printers or such to.

**Q: Does the TL-SG108 mount on a wall?**
A: Yes, it can be wall mounted or under a desk.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tried and true workhorse.
*by M***O on April 29, 2026*

I have multiple units in my house, and I keep coming back to this model whenever I need to expand the connections at single outlet. It is simple to set up (for normal switch behavior it is simple plug and go) and it offers reliable connectivity. The form factor is compact (for the 5 ports model) and it easily fits in tight space. The metal construction makes it solid and manages the thermals very well (allows you to slip it in places with less than ample ventilation).
