I like that it saves on waste since the part you discard is smaller and seems like it could be biodegradable. At first, it was hard to get the outside casing into the Brita filter that we use, but after it was in it worked well. When I was ready to change the filter, there was no way that casing was coming out as it seems to be super-wedged in there for life. But I was able to just open it and change the filter which was actually pretty easy. So as long as we never need to take that casing back out of the Brita container I guess we are good to go. I like that it saves on waste since the part you discard is smaller and seems like it could be biodegradable. At first, it was hard to get the outside casing into the Brita filter that we use, but after it was in it worked well. When I was ready to change the filter, there was no way that casing was coming out as it seems to be super-wedged in there for life. After the initial purchase that includes the filter and holder, it's nice to know that additional plastic isn't being sent into waste. The one problem is getting the old filter out of the holder - despite there being a "flap" on top of the filter, I still had to pound the filter upside-down on a hard surface to dislodge the filter. It's not a fault of the product - just a fact. It requires a little bit of effort but it's worth it. And, yes, the filter works as advertised and leaves clean-tasting water.
