Varathane weathered wood accelerator creates a weathered look on bare or untreated wood. It creates a unique, one-of-a-kind aged Gray look by replicating the aging process that happens in nature by reacting with the tannins of the wood.

Review: Test your wood. - I am having custom cove trim made to use between the backsplash in my kitchen and the countertop. Currently we are deciding what kind of wood to use so I wanted to test some of the wood I have available to me. I used a scrap of lightly bug stained pine we are using for the baseboards. The piece is raw rough wood. I also wanted to use this as learning experience. This wood accelerator is very thin. I used a cheap brush, and this is the result of one coat. The instant the accelerator touched the wood it changed to the color you see and after 30 minutes it still looked the same. Due to the roughness of the wood, it pooled slightly in places and none touched other places. But my takeaway is this works great on new pine, be quick and use a quality brush. I also tried it on a very old plywood pullout shelf. I prepped the wood according to the instructions. I bleached and washed it. Allowed it to dry. After 2 coats there was almost no change in the wood so I am going to stain or paint those. This couldn't be easier to use. Cleanup is a snap, there is no odor to contend with and a little goes a long way. I like it.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Anyone have any luck getting rid of the purple/blue tint on pine in any way?**
A: I had good luck achieving a nice driftwood gray color (instead of bluish-purple) on pine by mixing it 1/1 with water first - it seems like the bluish-purple color comes from the product being pretty strong straight out of the can. The good news: getting twice the amount I need from a can (when mixed 1/1 with water). Putting a coat of urethane on top (after dried) darkens it - no need for a second coat (and potentially making it bluish-purple).

**Q: Can you use it on pressed wood?**
A: Yes but not sure the look would be what you want. It ages the wood bringing out the grain on pressed wood it would exaggerate the pieces of pressed wood a gel stain Might be a better product. You can make faux grain.

**Q: can the stain be lightened after it's applied? I have darker areas where it overlapped.**
A: Try leaving the treated wood out in the sun. The UV rays start to fade/lighten the effect on wood. You may need to leave in the sun for several days. Just experiment with it.

**Q: what is the best topcoat for this product to retain the colour?**
A: laquer then followed by poly. just poly will lighten your satisfied color.
