Review: Top quality and sound - I've been playing drums for 35 years and these are my go to skins I love the sound quality and the extra layer with the oil in between For some reason this adds a nice deep tone and a real drum feel and sound you will not get super bounce out of these heads but you will get a beautiful tone and this is really an opinion that you will have to find out on Your own but once I gave these a try I fell in love with the feel and the tone. Also when I was younger I was a heavy banger I am now a much lighter touch but back then I would break pretty much any single skin head accept these because of the quality of the construction I believe. Just for piece of mind, I tried many other types of Evans heads, and other brands as well, like Remo...and I kept coming back to the Evans EC2 clears. Now that Evans has the new 360 degree technology, they tune even easier and faster because they sit on the bearing edge more evenly, almost perfectly, and without any play. This allows me to put the head on the drum, then put my hoop on, finger tighten my tension rods, and then tune accordingly(about one turn each rod in a cross pattern, then about a half turn the second time around). You may prefer to tune a different way! These heads sound somewhat fat, with not too much sustain (just right), and just the right amount of attack! The sound I get is perfect for live as well a recording, and I must add I use Evans Genera Resonant heads on the bottom to get the sound I'm referring to. I recommend giving these a try and hear for yourself how great they sound, I'll bet you won't be disappointed. Even on lower end drums they will sound really good. Sorry, I'm a new drummer.** A: No, the top “beater” heads are different then the bottom resonate heads., you should not use beater heads as resonate heads unless you looking for a completely strange sounding kit; typically the resonate heads seldom need changing at all just tune them correctly and you should be good to go, usually but not always the beater and resonate heads that are shipped with a NEW kit are not the best, but as a new drummer you can beat the hell out of them as practice then change them out for some quality heads.. hope this helps **Q: Could I tune these to sound like the Toms from the openening of chop suey! By System of a Down, if I add some dampening / would I need dampening** A: Yes you could. These heads are meant for metal! Lots of punch, and durable asf! Dampening prolly on the floor tom if your by yourself. I don't like to spend hours looking for the perfect sound. I just like to get the heads on, do a few turns of the drum key, and then start playing. These drum heads are perfect for drummers like me. Not much effort involved to get these to sound good. Plus they are very well made and have held up through long gigs and practices.
