This is quality leatherwork - the guard is thick yet supple enough to conform to handle. Lacing is sturdy - I took my time and really worked the lacing with a rubberized needlenose pliers to get it absolutely as snug as possible. Nothing broke, no issues at all. Fits perfectly and gives me peace of mind that my heirloom-quality hatchet will be protected against overstrikes. There are less expensive handle guards out there - also, people use paracord for this application. You could probably do it cheaper than Helko Werk, but it looks amazing and will stand up to punishment.
