How wide / tall will it chamfer?** A: The effective width of the cutters depends on the chamfer angle and the width of the chamfer. The chamfer width is measured along the hypotenuse of the chamfer. If a chamfer is called out as a face width, then it is to be measured along the hypotenuse of the chamfer. To convert a leg length dimension to face width, multiply the leg length value by 1.414. To convert from a face width dimension to a leg length dimension, reverse the process and divide by 1.4141. Different tooling manufacturers offer different angles and sizes of chamfer cutters and other chamfer cutter tip geometries. Sharp and built well. ### ⭐⭐⭐ No longer disappointed (Revised review) *by F***S on April 26, 2025* Original Review: Really wanted to like this product. Was excited to try it out as soon as it came and the first use was unfortunately very disappointing. Chatter on hardwood and tear out on plywood. Even taking very shallow passes. Looking closer at the why, the chisel bits (ALL of them) came completely and utterly dull! Some edges were literally round! Tried to sharpen them using the Work Sharp 2000 that gets all of my chisels and plane irons super sharp, to no avail. While the straight chamfer bit will get sharp as you can sharpen both sides of the edge, the soft iron of the bit will not hold an edge. Think overall plane design is good, quality is ok, but the cutting bits are just useless. Am returning the plane. Update June 2025: Saker entered in contact with me due to my poor review and offered to "make it right", i.e. send me another chamfer plane. Fine with me and I tried it out just like the first one: tried out all cutters on hard and soft wood. This time, I will say, the cutters cut a LOT better. The first plane I tried must have been a lemon. So both chamfer and round-over bits actually cut and chatter/tear out was at a minimum. The paint still came off and stained the wood, but a) that can be sanded out and b) that problem will go away with time. So overall a much better impression and I am likely to actually use it going foward, particularly if a router can't be used due to space contraints. What I am not sure of is how long the bits will hold an edge and when they are dull, how to sharpen them. I'll have to figure that one out.
