I recommend using a cutting tool rather than breaking by hand though. **Q: Are pins on female suitable for thru-hole mounting on a pcb? what are the pin dimensions?** A: I believe the female pins will work fine in printed circuit boards that have plated through holes, with proper soldering techniques.
