When he was 3...."Santa" brought him a used one, and we NEVER got it to work. This year (I had to REALLY convince his parents to TRY again....they ARE expensive!) he got this one for Christmas. I would NOT recommend this for EVERY 6-year-old, or even MOST. But - for a model-train obsessed 6-year-old, this SET....is perfect! We are extremely happy with this purchase!

**Q: Does anyone online carry small parts for HO trains...the rubber O ring that goes around the engine drive wheel??**
A: Specifically for traction tires I use O-rings from Harbor Freight it is like 5 bucks for 200 assorted sizes
