It only has one type of RCA connections on the back. No optical or coaxial connections. But I find that it operates perfectly and sounds very good. I have noticed no skipping. When you first turn it on it is a tad bit slow to open the cd drawer. When I say tad bit slow it does not instantly open the drawer but it is fast enough. All the commands respond nicely and when hooked up to a nice audio system it sounds very good. For the reasonable price I believe you are getting a solid basic player. It lacks connection options but if you mostly use standard RCA cables this machine will be just fine for you. One thing that impressed me is the unit is quite heavy for a cd player. It is not flimsy.
