If so, what do you recommend?** A: I used a silicone lubricant on the O ring to make it easier to lock the cover. With the silicone the cover slides down onto the filter body. If you don't use it the ring may slide out of its groove and you will have cover that's not sealed, so,yes, use the silicone **Q: What is the material of this o-ring?** A: The material for the o-ring is Black flexible rubber. Mine is holding up really well and fits perfectly. **Q: Whey is it so hard to show the size** A: Hmmm? The Size of What? **Q: Does this fit a hayward de 4800** A: Not sure what a Hayward de4800 is but this particular O-ring fits my Hayward cx90 and is about 10” in diameter.
