Like those, this pen possesses a smooth-turning mechanism that allows you to choose between 2 ballpoint pen colors and a mechanical pencil, which one advances by pushing on the top of the pen with one's thumb. It's slim enough to fit into the pen slot on most planners, and the mini ballpoint refills it comes with are among the best I've encountered: the color-saturated ink flows smoothly and easily without any stickiness, skipping, gaps, or ragged edges. They're almost as pleasant to use as a good rollerball. FYI: My experience with the more inexpensive version is that, after 2-6 years of daily use, the turning mechanism does eventually wear out, becoming "sticky" and a bit less pleasant to operate, or else the mechanical pencil mechanism jams and nothing can be done to clear or fix it.
