Very Pleased!!
Radius Garden Root Slayer Shovel - 2017 Green Thumb Award for Most Innovative Garden Tool I have been gardening for over 40 years and I have used most garden tools at one time or another. Occasionally a new innovative garden tool becomes available to gardeners, which is the case with the Radius Garden Root Slayer Shovel. It won the 2017 Green Thumb Award for Most Innovative Garden Tool, and rightfully so. This tool is well designed, very well made and does an excellent job of doing what it was designed to do, "slay roots." Well Designed: The Root Slayer was designed to be several tools in one. It's shape is part Drain Spade, part Digging Shovel, part Spade, and part Saw. The real beauty of the Root Slayer is the saw-toothed edges along the sides of the blade. The saw-toothed edges do indeed slay the roots of weeds, shrubs, trees, etc. These saw teeth are very sharp and saw right through any roots that are present when you are digging. This turns a difficult chore into a much easier task. The handle is circular in shape, which allows one's hands to grasp it from various angles. This will help prevent one's hands and wrists from becoming stressed from constantly being used at the same angle. The tip of the Root Slayer is very sharp, which is nice because every gardener knows that a sharp tipped digging tool works far better than a dull tipped garden tool. Well Constructed: The Root Slayer is very well made. The blade is heavy duty, rather than the flimsy construction of a lot of garden tools. The handle and shafts are also solid and heavy duty. As such, even a professional gardener can expect this tool to last for many years. The saw teeth along the edges are coarse-toothed, as opposed to fine-toothed. This coarse design prevents the teeth from getting clogged up by dirt, roots, etc. The ferrule (the place where the blade attaches to the shaft) is longer than most garden tools, definitely made for longevity. My Experience: When I received the Root Slayer, I put it to a rather thorough "field test". I quickly found out that it did a good job of doing what it was designed to do, "slay roots". I was impressed with how easily this tool sliced through most of the ever present roots of the nearby weeds, trees & shrubs. It sliced through the smaller roots with just one thrust of the tool. I used a sawing motion to slice through some of the larger roots, and the saw-toothed edges of the blade cut through these roots nicely. It also does a good job of digging, just like a spade or shovel. Recommendation: I am very pleased with this tool, and I highly recommend it for anyone who gardens; even a professional gardener will find the Root Slayer to be a nice and handy tool to have in their inventory of garden tools. As I mentioned earlier, "This tool is well designed, very well made and does an excellent job of doing what it was designed to do, 'slay roots'. " Happy Gardening to all!

Great tool
Great shovel—sturdy, sharp, and easy to use. The serrated blade cuts through roots and tough soil much better than a standard spade, making digging and transplanting a lot easier. It feels durable without being too heavy, and the bright red color makes it easy to find in the yard. Solid tool that gets the job done.

Great heavy duty short handle shovel
After digging up 25 gallons of smilax type root balls with this shovel, it does the job. Able to dig under where the root ball might be found (4-5”) with the length of the blade. Then pry the plant from the ground with hopefully the entire root ball This tool has the steel shaft which gives confidence on prying up the blade full of soil and plant. The handle length works for me at 6’. Like the extended foot rest on the blade to be able to dig in hard soil. Tool feels like a high quality product. Recommend this shovel for this type of digging. Update: 05/26 dug up over 250 gallons of rootball vines with this shovel. Better than the trenching shovel used before buying this one.

Serated edges do the trick.
This is without a doubt the best shovel!! Dug up a huge ornamental grass and it worked great. It’s a bit heavy but you need that support while digging. I just love this thing. Money well spent.

Got soil with lots of roots? Get this!
High quality and well made! Short handle design works well for a 5'4", 69-yr.-old woman. Great for digging holes to cram in even more plants in tight spaces with lots of roots in the ground. Narrow head doesn't bring out a lot of dirt at once like a regular shovel. But it's weapon-like design cuts through problem dirt areas very quickly! I like the raised tread design on the 2 areas where you put your foot so they won't slip off in heavy wet clay soil. This looks and feels very solidly built and should be able to withstand a lot of use! Just used it to plant 6 climbing roses in uneven areas that were not easy to access.

Best shovel I have ever owned
Wish I could give it 10 stars. I had to remove 4 arborvitae ranging from 4ft to 5ft tall planted roughly 6 yrs ago as tiny little slim 2 ft trees. Unfortunately neighbors grass cutters last fall cleaned out their front shrubs after 20yrs of doing nothing and unearthed a nest of bagworms which they (the landscapers) blew with their leaf blower straight at my trees and house. I've never seen or heard of bagworms until then. I lost 4 of my 18 trees. I finally bought 1 3-4ft replacement to see if I could dig out dead ones. I couldn't do it with a regular digging shovel. I got this shovel yesterday with high hopes. Was not disappointed. Shovel is heavy and sturdy. I was able to remove all 4 and planted the one I bought. Will be another tree now that I know it's can plant it myself. I'm 5ft tall and in last 3 yrs have had 2 shoulders and a hip replaced and this shovel made it a piece of cake. Sharp, perfect size for leverage. The material is heavy duty and seems rust resistant.

handle too short
It's well made but I hate that the end is not not actually a handle. Also, I'm 6 ft. so the handle is too short for me but I'm making it work.

Great tool to use for root pruning and plant removal.
This tool is awesome. It was a suggestion from a friend who said that the retired garden center staff used it. I put it to the test and removed 11 bush honeysuckle in one hour. It took a little longer to delicately cut off suckering roots on ninebark and spirea without damaging the plant but overall the sharp V in the front and the serrated blades on the side cut right through the roots. Ergonomically I liked how you could step on the plate and use your weight and the handle to pry up roots. Seemed heavy duty.

fantastiskt verktyg

Funktioniert
Funktioniert sehr gut zum abstechen kleinerer Wurzeln. Die Säge kann man getrost vergessen. Lässt sich auch schnell nachschärfen. Auch zum ausheben schmaler Löcher gut geeignet.

Mini Radius rootslayer
Brilliant, slightly smaller and lighter than normal Rootslayer, very manageable but has a knob handle not the normal ring type, perhaps difficult for man with large hands.

Great for small bushes and roots
Great tool. Took out some dead box hedge bushes including roots with ease. For the small bushes it's OK with approx 1cm diameter roots. Not sure if suitable for larger roots
