Just clean the spot with a little alcohol on a paper towel and it gets a good grip. They start out pretty bright but they only hold that for a short time and become a soft glow after 30 minutes. It will maintain the low glow level for about 2-4 hours depending on the decal and how much coating is on the sticker. I have similar stickers that seem to hold the brightness for a little longer so 4 out of 5
