I am presently using one to connect to a wireless network and then hook up to an ethernet only PC to give internet connectivity. Set it to WISP mode. One word of caution, the PC in my instance required to have DHCP enabled - which Windows 10 connection troubleshooter did for me. After that it works perfectly and allows said PC to also hook up to a couple of wireless printers. In this mode, as well as allowing an ethernet connection, it also creates its own wireless network separate from the main wireless network which any wireless device in range - phones, tablets, laptops - can see. Useful for a pub or restaurant wanting its customers on a separate wifi for the business. **Q: Does this support hotel wifi login page?** A: Yes **Q: Does this item work with public wifi networks that require browser based authentication?** A: There is a way round this but it does require you to be tech savvy.This can receive and repeat Wi-Fi signals.You need to write down the mac address of your tp link then turn it off.Use a piece of software on your laptop to change your laptops mac address to that of the tp link.Log into public/hotel Wi-Fi, do the login page etc.Turn Wi-Fi off then change your mac address back.Turn the tp link on and set it up to connect to the Wi-Fi. Set a different ssid for your sub network then as long as your tp link stays connected you can use multiple devices.This is how I use my chrome cast and tablet etc in hotels **Q: will this product work with the Huawei E3256 Dongle?** A: Yes if plugged directly into the router but not if you use a USB extension cable. This is a pain as an E3231 will do. Setup was straightforward and the instructions were easy to follow. Despite its small size, the signal is stable and reliable, and it's been great for extending WiFi coverage where needed. It's compact enough to take travelling and doesn't take up much space at all. For the price, it's a very useful little device that performs surprisingly well. Good value for money ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Small, lightweight but ultra-powerful and at a great price *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 28 March 2026* So what do we have here: Wifi 6, 160MHz of channel bandwidth, VPN server, VPN client which I am using with NordVPN and it works wonders, ultra-fast web interface, lots of settings and customisation options, super-reliable connection with my main router through Wifi but through ethernet too of course. Wifi performance is great too although I do not expect it to be on par with more expensive routers. But afterall, this is a small and lightweight device with no external antennae. Covering the area of an apartment or of a hotel room is more than enough. And it does it so well. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Versatile little travel WiFi router *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 29 August 2025* For its size this little travel WiFi router is great. It support both 2.4G and 5G WiFi bands and different usage scenarios which are easy to switch between using a physical button on the side of the device.The device is tiny for what it can do and low power enough that it could be run from a reasonable sized power bank instead of the supplied mains AC adapter.Configuration in router mode (with the switch set to Share ETH) was a breeze using TP-Link's Tether app. In the other modes you have to resort to using the admin console on a web browser which is a shame as being able to do it all from Tether would simplify things. Also your configuration from router mode isn't retained when switching modes and when you switch back any custom WiFi network changes mat be undone by switching modes and using the admin console in the web browser session. The device only supports a single web admin session too, so changing WiFi settings means you then have to power cycle the device to be able to log in to the admin console again.The device also supports a guest WiFi network, so you can create a private wireless network for your trusted devices on the main WiFi, and selectively share internet access with others via guest WiFi without them having access to your private network.It does NOT include any direct way of connecting to the internet itself. To do that you need an internet router you can connect to it using the wired ethernet port, or you need to buy a USB modem (aka a dongle) to plug into its USB port (i.e. with SIM slot and mobile data contract). USB modems aren't that plentiful either and most only work on 3G/4G mobile networks (I haven't found a 5G one at all at the time of writing).It can also work in shared hotspot mode, where all your devices are connected to the device and it connects to public WiFi or a mobile data WiFi router. This can significantly simplify connecting your devices up when travelling, but be aware that it may open your WiFi data to snooping if ultimately going through a public WiFi without using a VPN as well.My one real gripe about the device, and hence it losing a star, is speed. Despite saying it supports fast WiFi, my tests showed it topping out at 50Mbps on 2.4G WiFi and at 95Mbps on 5G WiFi connections.
