Our box is made of Cypress for long life and does not need to be painted. The top comes in Cypress with two wood cleates on each end and no feeder hole or a MDO Plywood top with a standard feeding hole. Both have a dado cut around the edges to keep tops from sliding off the box. Depth of frame ledge has been increased to 7/8" to allow for our dodo cuts in tops and when the tops are turned over to the flat side there is an extra 3/8" space for feeding. Bottom is screened for ventitalition and has wood strips over exposed screen edges to help when handling from the bottom. There are 3/4" wood spacers made of Cypress attached to the bottom for ventilation when stacked or shipped. All joints are glued and stapled. A small wood wedge comes with the Jnuc to either close the box or used as a entrance reducer to restrict the 4" opening. The JNuc Box holds 5 standard deep Hive Body frames (not included). It is well made and arrived assembled. I really like the entrance design with the tapered wood entrance blocker. You can just push it in and it is pretty secure for transporting a swarm. I wish the inside of the lid did not have a bevel. It makes it hard to put on without crushing bees. I also wish they were available with a solid bottom.
