The Dustin-MIzer is not balanced and If you are not use to cranking the mizer, your arm will tire quickly. The DE doesn't easily slide down the sides of the hopper so you have to strike or shake the Dustin-MIzer to dust effectively. Don't recommend buying this product until the manufacture improves the design of the Mizer. Example: Handle position/balance and how to easily move the DE down the hopper into the spring crank. Suggest buying a backpack gas powered blower/duster/mister from Stihl or Maruyama. It's expensive ($600 plus) but, worth it if you are going to dust regularly amd dust a large yard. Buy the Maruyama because it's lighter than the Stihl. The Maruyama had a recall in 2011 because of the plastic gas tank was cracking, but since fixed the problem. I bought one and happy with it. Go on-line and research all backpack dusters for more information. **Q: Will boric acid (in powder form) work well with this duster?** A: Yes, but it is very heavy, must heavier than most dusts, and may break your duster. It will definitely cause severe hand fatigue. It also won't do your plants much good -- I tried it last year for a monster flea infestation and I have giant dead spots on my lawn where I was a little too heavy with the borax. I switched to diatomaceous earth for the garden and it took out the whitefly infestation which was attracting all the wasps, but I had to go with Tempo dust to get the wasps in the end. Good luck. **Q: Can you mix water and de with this** A: I would NOT put water in this. It would probably inhibit the moving parts.
