On 2500 and 3500 pickups, remove metal spring-loaded inspection plate on the bottom of the transmission. Tool should slide into opening toward engine with the top of the tool engaging the teeth of the flywheel. On 4500 and 5500 trucks, remove the rubber inspection cap on the bottom of the transmission. Insert the tool at the front of the opening to engage the flywheel and hand tighten bolt to hold tool in place. Use 36mm 12 point socket with 3/4" square drive to remove harmonic balancer bolt and re-torque on installation. 36mm 12 point socket can also be used on axle nuts. Review: Got the dreaded job done - I wasn't sure because it was so cheap, but I needed this part and had already spent enough on the water pump. Way easier and faster than the engine crank method. The flywheel lock tool and socket did not break and got the horrible job done. It made it a little easier without risking any damage. Worth the money. *by E***C on February 14, 2021* Makes changing the water pump on your Duramax a lot easier!! It comes with 2 flywheel holding pieces. One for 3/4 and 1 ton models. And another one for bigger models. The socket works great. I would also recommend getting the fan pulley holding tool for changing out the water pump.
