The wire just needs to be long enough to wrap around the spark plug wire and reach back to the hour meter. I cut all of mine shorter. **Q: How do you display the engine rpms it keeps track of as referenced here, "this digital tach/hour meter will keep track of engine rpms ...."?** A: O am not aware of a tach reading on mine. I only see hour meter. **Q: Are these solar powered? And they arrived with 2 at .2 hours and 2 at .1 hours on them… not a big deal but really?** A: They clock hours from inductive signal so it's not uncommon for something so sensitive to see a tenth or two of an hour. They are sealed with a battery internal, not solar. I had 2 out of 4 die within a month or two. This product is higher quality than I expected. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Solid little hour meters, but the “tachometer” claim is misleading *by J***. on November 15, 2025* I use a lot of hour meters, since I’m constantly fixing up and maintaining small engines and equipment. Any time I can add an hour meter, I do, because it makes tracking maintenance so much easier. That’s what led me to this multi-pack: I liked the idea of having several meters on hand, and the listing advertised them as hour meters and tachometers, which sounded like a nice bonus. In practice, these turned out to be hour meters only. There is no tachometer function, at least not on the ones I received. They simply show accumulated hours. No RPM readout, no tach mode, nothing. For me, the tach feature was a “nice to have,” not a deal-breaker, so I’m not devastated, but it is definitely a miss and the description is misleading. That said, as hour meters, they’re perfectly fine and actually pretty good: • I like the color options. Being able to pick or mix different colors is genuinely useful when you’re installing these across multiple machines. It makes it easy to visually distinguish one unit from another at a glance, especially if you’re keeping a small fleet of equipment straight. • The multi-pack offering is a big plus.
