The reason is that the rack-metal gets very hot, beyond the heat resistance of 450 degrees. This can lead to staining, and in some cases smoking, so we recommend you only use these on a Baking Tray/Sheet. **Q: I’m looking for a specific size, are these trimable?** A: I have not tried to trim them, but I guess you can if you use a pair of scissors. The small one fit well in my toaster over, and I use the large ones in my oven. **Q: Where are these made?** A: Pretty much everything sold in the US is made in China, including your electronics..if they have been working alright, you shouldn't worry about a baking mat. There is quality control for everything sold here. **Q: Are these 400F or 450F resistant? information is conflicting** A: I have a cookie recipe that requires the cookies be baked at 425. I’ve used the mats for this cookie several times, the mats seem to be fine. I didn’t see anything to indicate to me that they were unable to hold up to the heat. So… maybe try it and see?
