Review: Avoid transmitter/receiver antennas touching metal; stay within range of transmission - Finally got around to installing this receiver/transmitter kit. I had a repair done to the car and the backup camera wasn't working after I got it back. The problem was either a broken video cable or a faulty camera. I saw this kit on desertcart and decided to try it because I was not in the mood to run another video cable to test. The installation was easy. The transmitter connects to the backup camera. The receiver connects to the head unit. Read also the head unit manual to see how to connect the wire for the trigger for automatic switching to the backup camera when the vehicle is put in reverse. The challenge was in testing the kit. I have a hatchback. I placed the transmitter on the inside of the trunk door, just below the bottom middle of the back windscreen, in a cavity and not letting the antenna touch any metal behind the cover hiding the electronics. Placing the receiver behind the head unit results in the receiver getting no signal from the transmitter. I placed the receiver to the right of the head unit (due to space constraints and fortunately mainly plastic in that area) and got a stable, sharp and clean picture from the camera. The signal is wireless so you might get interference at some point from an external source in close proximity to the transmitter/receiver kit. But for the most part you should get a distortion free picture from the transmitter to the receiver. The key points to remember are: 1) do not let the antennas of both the transmitter and receiver touch any metal parts as this will affect the signal transmission 2) do not place the receiver behind the head unit because the head unit, being metal, will block the signal from reaching the receiver and you won't get any picture from the backup camera 3) the receiver does not have to be in direct line of sight of the transmitter but within the operating parameters of the kit I am very pleased with this kit and would recommend it

**Q: If I buy two of these, can I use one transmitter and two receivers? I'd like to have two screens showing one camera's view.**
A: They wouldn’t work.  They would be on the same frequency.

**Q: If I already have a wireless camera can I use the reviver end to view the video on my in dash unit instead of the screen it came with?**
A: you would still need to attach the transmitter to the camera and the receiver to the screen as both receiver/transmitter is coded to each other, the system uses 2.4 GHz so there are only 14 frequencies so it's possible that the transmitter might be on the same band as your screen but that's just a small chance.  I have regularly picked up other people's signals on my screen while driving so anything is possible.

**Q: Why does my reciever red light not turn on?**

It works well, if you can get a good signal. I mounted this in my hitch receiver and the signal was iffy. Sometimes I'd get a good picture, but then it would lose connection and then come back. This was in a Grand Cherokee and I guess there was just a little too much interference because of being outside the vehicle and being surrounded by the metal hitch receiver. I ended up hard wiring a license plate camera. I figured it wasn't much more work to run the wire once I had the tailgate pulled apart anyway.
