We surreptitiously checked all the employees hands and found nothing! Then we went to the housekeeping room. (Now keep in mind, the trap was purposely set in a sealed ziploc in a closed lableled drawer to prevent accidental exposure.) Hoping that this was punishment enough and deterrent for future theft, we simply piled the rags on the table with a note, "Gotcha. Thou shalt not steal. Wonder what else we did this to?" A few grains of this stuff on some double sided tape stuck to the item that is private etc will catch the thief purple handed. Word of warning; this stuff is very potent, a little goes a long way, will stain clothes permanently and the only way I've found to get it off your skin is with bleach. Use with caution. **Q: Is this potassium permanganate?** A: Triarylmethane dye. Not potassium permanganate. **Q: besides pranks and jokes are there any practical uses, like how well dose it work as an actual purple dye for cloth? what shade of purple do you get?** A: It would be a dark purple, (Google gentian violet stain) but you would not have a lot of control over the result.
