It is very hard to find authentic tasting tteokbokki in the US; they are often too sweet or too spicy. But sauce used for Surasang tteokbokki had the perfect combination of sweet and spicy. Rice cakes were also very delicious (chewy). I guarantee that you will be much more satisfied with these tteokbokkis than you would be with the ones you get from H Marts. It's not just me - my other Korean friends were very impressed when I brought it to the potluck lunch! I tried cooking this tteokbokki in two different ways: 1. in microwave as recommended on the cover 2. in a pot with boiling water. I would say that both tasted good, but if you have time, definitely try cooking it in a pot with more vegetables, eggs, etc., for a richer flavor! Either way you will love these.

**Q: For someone who never tried this should i buy an try?**
A: it depends on how experienced you are with asian foods, i always encourage trying new things because you never know if you’ll like it. but i’d recommend starting with like one or two bowls not a six pack.

**Q: Is it halal**
A: Questionable. It’s made in a facility that uses pork in its products. There is a chance of pork cross contamination even though this product contains no pork itself.

**Q: Is this vegan? I see glycerin fatty acid ester in the ingredients list, which can be made from either plant or animal products.**
A: This is not vegan. Made with beef broth.

**Q: Is it gluten free?**
A: I have celiac disease and I've been eating this for over a year and have never had problems with it. It doesn't state "gluten free" and uses modified starch but I've never gotten sick from it.

I really enjoy the flavor of this 떡볶이 , and the packaging is pretty great, but the thickness is not there. When I don't put much water in the rice doesn't seem right, and when I put enough water to make the rice how I want it, the sauce is too thin. I think I may need to cook the two separate.
