Every time you connect the Trezor to the computer for an update on trezor.io, we check FW+HW , update the old one, etc, so, it would detect any problem. Also, the device cant really send anything anywhere. The only scam running around regarding HW Wallets is phishing sites where victims enter their seed on the computer or very straightforward scam where someone opens the box and puts it nice looking sheet with predefined SEED with instructions on how to use it. The attacker then has the same seed and will simply move the coins elsewhere.
