Another great cd from one of Norway's best bands! Profan is a lot more like Heimgang than their last album or even Mare for that matter. The songs here are a bit more stripped down but are structured with precision as Dolk soars with his signature blackened vocal delivery. I don't think you can get much more true Black Metal than this! Folky, Catchy yet not trendy or fake, Kampfar are like a good bottle of wine they just keep getting better with age (each release).

Kampfar gelten seit jeher als eine der anspruchsvolleren Bands aus Norwegen. Haben sich Konsorten a la Dark Throne so minimalistisch wie möglich gehalten und wurden so zum Kult, haben sich Kampfar ihren Status durch künstlerische Leistung erarbeitet."Profan" bietet hier wie gewohnt sehr gute norwegische Kost, die eine Mischung aus Black und Pagan Metal darstellt. Leider warte ich seit der MCD "Kampfar" stets auf einen ebensolchen Kracher wie es "Hymne" ist... Doch auf Profan ist mit "Tornekratt" für mich der zweite Megahit und Evergreen der Band vorhanden.Jeder der einzelnen Songs weiß zu überzeugen, ohne mich letztendlich vollends vom Hocker zu werfen... Eben bis auf "Tornekratt". Der Mittelteil lässt mich schon sabbern, wenn ich nur daran denke. Dolks Stimme ist rauh, sie ist krächzend, sie ist reibend... Das erinnert sehr stark an Quorthon, ohne dessen extreme Tonschwankungen.Zu guter Letzt kann man sagen: Kampfar sind immer anspruchsvoll, nie einfach. Eine Band, die man nicht eben nebenbei hört. Man muss schon dabei sein. Sonst kann es leicht sein, dass man solche Juwelen wie "Tornekratt" überhört. Und hier liegt für mich auch der Schwachpunkt des Albums, wenngleich es doch meckern auf hohem Niveau ist."Profan" ist besser als so mancher x-ter primitiver Abklatsch eines "Transsilvanian Hunger". Es hat seinen völlig eigenen Sound. Es lohnt sich definitiv, dem Album mal Gehör zu leihen. Die Jungs können nämlich was.
