That was partially successful, but I awoke one night with it itching like crazy and a red welt starting to appear. Now I've part-wrapped my wrist with k tape, and have the watch strap on top of that.Polar has done the right thing and is sending a replacement strap. Same material, different color. We'll see how this goes!Update 2021.04.21 : I'm in contact with Polar about the problem. Thinking about it more and looking at the pattern of the rash marks, I'm thinking it might be caused by the dye in the dark grey strap rather than the material.My partner bought me this for Christmas :)I exercise every day and like to have an rough guide to my heart rate (this is not as accurate as a chest strap). There are a few other features in this watch that I enjoy and use frequently.I would use it more frequently, but after about 36-48 hours of wear, the strap causes an allergic reaction that feels like poison oak. You'd think this major problem could be easily solved by simply replacing the strap with a different material. But it's a non-standard size, and Polar, even though they are apparently aware that silicon can cause allergies, doesn't offer any material alternatives.Since 1993 I have owned several different Polar watches, and have worn watches with a wide variety of strap materials. This has never happened to me before, and aged almost 60 years old, I'm not aware of any other allergies I have, except to poison oak. I don't react to bee stings, nuts, etc.I've wondered if the problem actually was poison oak on the strap, but I've washed it with technu, and the welts don't last nearly as long as a poison oak reaction. They disappear within 24 hour of taking the watch off.Hopefully I will be able to resolve this problem. Initially I will likely cover the band with tape, although that's not going to be a permanent solution.Overall, except for the strap, I prefer it to the Apple watch. For me one of the biggest plus features is I can glance at the face while riding or running and see the heart rate display. The Apple watch and most other devices inexplicably make those figures so tiny my inflexible aging eyes need glasses to read them, which of course isn't going to work when I'm riding a bike or jogging along a woodland trail.One problem I’ve found is when the battery goes under 50 percent the heart rate reading can be unrealistically low. I mean, I’d love it if I could stride up a 25 percent gradient with HR only 112, but it’s just not true. 150 bpm would be more like it. Overall the Apple watch seems to be more accurate as a wrist-based HRM.Whenever I can, I wear it at night to record my sleep. I enjoy this feature and find it correlates with acceptable accuracy to my perceived feeling of the night's sleep.
