Product Description Long story Savon D’alep is the " Ancestor of soaps ": It is the first bar soap in the world, and has been made in the Middle East for about 3,500 years. Initially, it consisted of four pure ingredients: olive oil, laurel seed and laurel oil, water, and natural soda. Over time, Savon D’alep crossed centuries and borders. First, it began its journey through the Silk Road, and then it came to France during the Crusades in the 11th century. The Crusaders took this famous soap from the city of Halep and renamed it after the city they landed in: “Savon de marseille". The only difference causing confusion between Savon D’alep and Savon de marseille is that laurel oil is not used in Savon de marseille. Other than that, both soaps are produced using traditional methods that have a long history. How is Traditional Aleppo Soap Made? Masters traditionally make Savon D’alep using olive oil, water, natural soda (desert salt or desert salicornia), and oil obtained from laurel leaves and seeds. In a large cauldron, olive oil is boiled with water and soda for about 20 minutes to obtain soap. Then, the oil obtained from laurel leaves and seeds is added, and the preparation is thoroughly mixed. The resulting paste thickens and turns green. Then, it is spread on a stone floor that is not exposed to the sun and left to dry for at least 9 months. The blocks are then cut by hand. Depending on the time and drying conditions, the soap changes color from light green to almost golden brown. Finally, before being left to dry again, the soaps are stamped with a brand seal. The soap is stored for 9-12 months until it is fully matured. How to use Savon D'Alep? While Savon de marseille can be used for cleaning laundry or indoor surfaces, the situation is very different for Savon D’alep. Due to its powerful combination of olive oil and laurel oil, which is called "very precious oily," Savon D’alep is mainly used for beauty and health care, and is particularly effective for treatment. Aleppo soap is thought to be one of the oldest forms of soap in the world. It goes back 3500 years but possibly as far back as 5000 years. It is made of purely natural ingredients - Olive oil, laurel oil, water and lye. The first two lends their gentle cleaning, moisturising and anti microbial properties whilst the last two aid lathering. The soap boasts a wonderful, earthy scent to it; some would find it a bit unpleasant or odd because most of us are used to soap that are full of chemicals and perfumes. You can get a really rich lather with this soap, too. The soap works really well with my skin and hair. It cleans it well but doesn't dry it out like other soaps. In particular, it makes my beard shine. I have a ginger beard and most other soaps "dull" that copper hue but this highlights it. I like having a natural soap I can use on my hair and face, too. It leaves skin and hair soft, nourished and moisturised. I find that if you let it sit on your skin for around five minutes before rinsing, it deeply cleanses and moisturises your skin whilst leaving it soft and clean instead of a superficial cleansing. It is heavy. If you drop it in the shower, it sounds like a brick and sometimes chunks can break off. That's the only downside. I will use Aleppo soap for the rest of my life now. It is absolutely fantastic. The old ways are still the best.
