The lens hood works very well with no vignetting. I am very much not an expert, and have just started doing more than 'point and shoot.' This was my first attempt to add any accessories. But I was able to figure out how the adapter tube worked best for my camera. You take off the ring that comes on the G12 and screw on the adapter. When I used it as it came in the package I got vignetting, but then I discovered I could separate the adapter tube, and with the shorter piece attached to the camera I could attach the tulip hood or lenses without any vignetting.
