How wide is it in the closed position?** A: These sellers seem confused about what they are selling. From the tip of the blade to the of the handles, in the closed position, the shears are 6 1/8 inch long. The functional part of the shears blade is 1 3/4 inch long while the full blade is 1 7/8 inch long. At the widest part of the handle in the closed position, the handle is 1 5/8 inch. A hint: expect the lock to fail as it is plastic and after minimal use my locks have failed on two pair of these shears. They continue to be functional, though. **Q: has the locking mechanism been changed?** A: Yes. It is now on the side instead of being a "U" shaped mechanism folded over the blades. The old ones were engaged/disengaged with the thumb on the top of the blades. The new one is located on the side and is not distorted - leading to failure to lock - like the old ones were. **Q: Before I order the sissors I wanted to make sure they are electric, battery operated sissors. I do not see this information stated anywhere.** A: They are not electric or battery operated scissors. My husband bought these for me because lately my arthritis has been acting up. I am attending college and using scissors was very hard for me, I would usually have to ask my husband to cut things out for my college projects. He saw these and thought they would be great for me. Well, YES...they are great. They are light weight and easy to handle. They are VERY sharp and makes cutting very easy. I also like that these scissors or ambidextrous, meaning that you can use either hand when cutting stuff. I am ambidextrous myself and other scissors were very awkward for me to use with my left hand, if I was using a right handed scissor. Even the left handed scissors were awkward and didn't cut very well for me.
