He is at the age where he is hard to shop for aside from video games and electronics, I wanted something fun for him and I to do together as well as a learning tool. He has shown interest in rocks, gems, and crystals so I thought this would be right up his alley and boy was I right. Since cracking open the very first geode his curiosity and excitement began to intensify and I loved helping him out. This kit really provided a nice assortment from solid to hollow and a fair variety of size and colors also. One of the geodes was actually filled with a bright sand colored dirt which both of us thought was really cool, he immediately said "I wonder how old this dirt is" which let me know he was getting a hands on learning experience. We will definitely be interested in purchasing more sets just like this one and I won't be so lost come his birthday as to what to get for him or recommend to others. The set does come with safety goggles which he put on and used without my having to ask as well a small information booklet on the different geodes. I definitely recommend purchasing a chisel and rock hammer to get better splits on the rocks but we made do with a flat head screw driver and house hammer. Some of the solid heavy geodes were a bit hard to break and we even ended up using a sledgehammer on it! Another tip I recommend is to break them on a hard surface and place the geode inside a zip lock prior to cracking to keep all the bits contained. Overall I am extremely pleased with this purchase and it has definitely become one of our new found hobbies thanks to this kit. Review: Not easy to open! But very fun! - This set provided a lot of entertainment for us. Some of the geodes are very beautiful. A couple of them seemed to be duds, but it was still worth the price and the effort. Smashing them was fun but not really a kid activity. The adults did most of the work! But it was a family effort with a nice surprise inside each geode. I would recommend it as a gift for kids (or adults). Our 8 year old did some smashing with the hammer, but the chisel method (to get a cleaner break, the hope is) is definitely for an older kid or adult. ## Features - EXPLORE CRYSTAL CAVES - Geodes are naturally forming volcanic rocks that contain amazing crystal formations inside. Was hopeing for at least one color, are you guaranteed colored ones if you buy the 15?** A: Primarily white crystals will be found since many different minerals produce a white crystal (e.g. quartz, fluorite, calcite can all be white) Unfortunately, we do not have a way to ensure color geodes are found since part of the fun of geodes is not knowing what is inside until you crack them open! **Q: Are they real?** A: Yes, our Geodes are naturally forming volcanic rocks that contain amazing crystal formations inside. **Q: What size are the Geodes in this kit?** A: This geode kit provides an excellent variety. Since geodes are naturally forming, precise sizes may vary, but most kits will contain 2 tennis ball sized geodes, 2 more nearly as big, with the rest being of varying smaller sizes down to the size of a large gumball. The majority will be somewhere in the middle. We fill these kits with only the best quality geodes, striving to bring you a great selection. We hope this helps! **Q: does this kit contain pyrites?** A: Yes. Usually two or three will be in the box ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My Son Absolutely Loved This Kit & New Found Hobby It Created, Nice Size & Color Assortment, Contains Solid & Hollow Geodes *by M***M on January 5, 2016* My 11 year old son really enjoyed this Geode Kit even more than he expected! But very fun! *by M***E on August 14, 2023* This set provided a lot of entertainment for us. Some of the geodes are very beautiful. One of the geodes that actually counted as one of the 15 "premium geodes" however, was the size of my thumb nail. I've actually ordered these once 2 years ago and the quality difference is very noticeable. You'll also get some full geodes but if you have a saw or give em a good mash they'll break open! ## Frequently Bought Together - NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC Break Open 15 Premium Geodes for Kids Break Open - with Goggles, Detailed Learning Guide, 3 Display Stands, Great STEM Science Toy & Educational Gift, Easter Basket Stuffers - NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC Break Open 10 Premium Geodes – Includes Goggles and 2 Display Stands - Great STEM Science Kit, Geology Gift for Kids, Break Your Own Geodes with Crystals, Toys for Boys and Girls - NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC Rock Collection Box for Kids – 300 Piece Gemstones and Crystals Set Includes Geodes and Real Fossils, Rocks and Minerals Science Kit for Kids, A Geology Gift for Boys and Girls --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - πŸ›’ **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** β€” Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** β€” Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - πŸ’° **No Hidden Fees** β€” All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - πŸ”„ **15-Day Free Returns** β€” Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - πŸ”’ **Secure Payments** β€” Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** β€” Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.kg/products/21270456-national-geographic-break-open-15-premium-geodes-science-kit-kids](https://www.desertcart.kg/products/21270456-national-geographic-break-open-15-premium-geodes-science-kit-kids) --- *Product available on Desertcart Kyrgyzstan* *Store origin: KG* *Last updated: 2026-10-05*
