## Overview

The Celestron NexStar RS-232 Cable is a 62-inch interface cable designed to connect your NexStar computerized telescope to a PC or laptop. It enables seamless telescope navigation from your computer, supports firmware updates, and facilitates data transfer. Compatible with standard serial ports, it requires a Serial-to-USB adapter for USB-only devices, making it an essential tool for modern astronomers seeking precision control and up-to-date functionality.

## Description

The Celestron RS-232 Cable is used to connect your PC or computer to NexStar computerized telescopes via a port in the hand control. The large adapter attaches to the serial port of your computer. If your computer does not have a serial port, you will need a Serial-to-USB Adapter (#18775) so that you can connect the RS-232 Cable via a USB port instead. The other end of the cable terminates in a phone-jack style plug, and simply snaps into the port designed for this purpose.Once you have connected your computer and telescope, you can update your hand control firmware. The latest updates can be found in the Support section of this website.Connecting a computer to your telescope will also allow you to navigate the telescope from your computer screen! There are many software programs available today that will not only display the night sky as it appears on any chosen observing night, but that will allow you to send your telescope to any object on the screen with the click of a button.

**Q: What kind of computer uses serial port?**
A: Used to be all your PCs came with a couple serial ports, now very rare. You will most likely need a usb to serial adapter to use this.

**Q: Is this compatible with older model of celestron nexstar 90gt(which has an older 4-pin port)**
A: Should work with any requiring a serial connection. If computer has no serial port (most dont now a days, too slow). You will need a USB to Serial port adapter, Windows will install needed drivers.

**Q: I have nexstar 127 Slt , where can I put plug ?**
A: The Phone jack end plugs into your hand controller, the serial end goes to your computer serial port or a usb - serial converter- see Celestron's Nexstar pages for details. Also : http://www.nexstarsite.com/ for all the Nexstar info you could want.

**Q: My computer to telescope distance is 30 ft and i also need rs232 to usb converter. which cable should be the 30ft one?**
A: I haven't had a chance to test it, but it might be possible to use a USB over cat5/6 adaptor I have a set up for my Metro barcode scanner. I used it with several other devices and the response time was excellent.
