There are a few YouTube videos by people that claim this can handle the weight, that the weight rating is less than what it can do and they are correct. The red dot knob tightens the ball head really well. I would however still take precautions that Manfrotto recommends like extending the legs for better balance but even though there's a chance the tripod could fall over, the ball head won't give way. Everything else they say like it feels good in your hands to the compactness to the overall form and function are all correct. I have been using it as a trip pod, stand, and holding grip for blogging with small cameras like GoPro and Cellphone. Initially the quality was very good and felt good showing the brandname logo. Unfortunately over the time the paint started to wear off on one of the pivot points of one of the legs and the leg is now unable to holds its position and flops around. Not a big problem if it iss supporting something, the issue is only when you lift the tripod and the leg just flops around.
