You recommend buffing with a paper towel, so it can't be to avoid fibers.** A: One nice thing is these are lint free, very durable (compared to say eyeglass wipes), and though it doesn’t say it I believe ESD safe as well (I think most any are though).. Paper towel will leave lint, or small pieces on the IC/cooler if it’s soaked in alcohol, and yeah you can clean that stuff off, it’s just a pain and time consuming. If you want to get a big pack of some serious wipes, they make ESD Safe Lint Free Clean Room cloths in packs of hundreds of wipes for like $30-$40. But they’re not pre moistened, which isn’t a big deal, but it’s a bit overkill for what most people need. Theoretically, it is not necessary to buy a product to clean thermal paste, as there are many DIY/store-bought solutions. However, I just wanted an ease of mind, hoping for a simple, lintless solution. This product provided it. Though my thermal paste was not all hard/cracking (still somewhat in paste form), these wipes did a good job removing excess residue. Also, it is not smelly like the Arctic branded ones. It doesn't smell like anything from a table's length. I did not put it on my nose to smell it though (I don't recommend doing that). The only bad thing is that the wipes are super wet. As a result, they take a while to dry. Furthermore, after drying, they leave a bit of a "dried up liquid" residue (see photo).
