I am glad I got this one over the slightly cheaper Gearlux Banjo Hardshell Case. Reviews on that case said that the core felt as though it were made of cardboard and would "Crush" if you set anything on top of it. This one seems to have a core of,,,, Luann or thin plywood. It is sufficient for my purposes.The vinyl came with a minor gouge on the top. The box didn't seem to be too beat up, so this was likely done during manufacture or packaging. In my case, its not a big deal. It really is a minor blemish. I am certain that during transport this case will gain many more. But that's what it's for and it's not worth sending it back for another.I will say this about the packaging. It came in a cardboard box with ZERO packing material. It's travel from point A to point B must have been meet with some fairly caring handlers, because I can see how this item could EASILY be damaged in shipping.For the price, it looks great. It feels great. I could not be happier with a $75 case. The one thing that I don't like is the handle hinge, and thus the reason for 4 stars. The hinges frankly are cheap and rather flimsy. I am worried over time that the handle will be the weakest part of this case. The Goodtime 2 that will reside in it is not a particularly expensive banjo, but I don't want the handle to come apart and have it go crashing to the ground just the same. I intend to keep a close eye on the handle and when possible, handle the case by the body.Final notes. I am not by any means a musician. I intend to carry my banjo around with me from time to time. And when I do, I intend to show extra caution when loading unloading it. Care and time that your average musician that does this stuff day in day out would not spend. I would think that a musician would want a better case that would better stand up to the riggers of constant transport. I think for my needs, this one will be just fine with a bit of extra TLC. I would highly recommend this case for a beginner banjo player. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Carrion C-2901 Banjo Case ($52.86) *by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2012* I was very happy when this little number arrived 3 days before it was supposed too (I have no idea why it did). Upon first inspection the case is lighter than I would have like, although combined with the banjo its pretty hefty (note: I have to take six flights of stairs). The hinges are surprisingly sturdy as is the handle, which upon discovery brought me significant joy. There are three latches, presumably steel, which run around the outer front of the case. I don't know why but I would have preferred four, just personal preference I suppose. Their is a lock on the middle latch although I wouldn't put your life savings in the case because its mostly for show, keep people from knocking off your tuning and all that. My banjo is approximately 39",14",5.5" (L,W,H) or 99.06,35.56,13.97 in centimeters which makes it a bit on the thin side. As a result of this my banjo tends to "sit", if you will, while the case is on the ground and "lean" when I pick it up. If you were to lift the case to quickly you might knock it around but if you stuff an old rag in there it will be good. Theirs also a storage bin in the case which I found delightful. I currently have a case of picks in there as well as a box of strings, tuner, notes, cloth (for cleaning strings), a mute (clothespin), a flask, and a partridge in a pear tree just kidding. My final assessment of this case is that it lives up to, if not exceeds the standards for a case of this price (at time of purchase $52.86). It's been about a month since my purchase and every things held up nicely.Pros:--Sturdy handle--Sturdy hinges--Support strap (keeps the lid from moving)--Superb storage bin--Soft interior clothCons:--Too many "s"'s in the Pros sectionFinal Remarks: I would fully recommend that you purchase this case for your banjo. I have one for my soprano ukulele and one for my concert ukulele. Fit and finish on these cases is very good for the price. The case opens and closes easily and fits nicely all around the edges and all around my instruments. These are much better than the generic wood cases that are sold on Amazon which have much worse fit-and-finish; two of the generic cases that I bought and returned were difficult to close properly and I could feel nails poking through the wood inside the padding. Inside this case is nice support for the instrument neck and a nice layer of soft foam. Maybe not as plush as some of the cases that cost twice as much, but more than adequate for the small instruments that I carry and thinner padding makes the case less bulky.
