It has a pedal at the bottom to push open the lid and slowly lowers the lid on it's own so there's no loud slamming sound when it closes. There a convenient inside removable basket with a lift handle. It comes with good quality gray bags with yellow tie strings. I will pull the bag over the edge of the inside basket and tie a small knot then pull the bag deep into the basket for a snug fit around the edge of the basket. Then fit the basket back into the trash can. You can see the bags outside over the edge when the trash can. It would be nice if they could have a space to hide them inside. I was hoping to find a slightly smaller trash can for the kitchen counter by the coffee maker but I love this one because it is rectangular and fits better than a round trash can.
