The micro-weave cloth surface has a far more premium look and feel when compared to PU leather and the mouse tracks exceptionally well on this surface (to be fair, tracking is very good on the PU leather surface as well). The rubber underside keeps the mat firmly in place on the desktop. The mat arrives rolled up in its box so, to speed up the flattening out process, I rolled it back up but in the opposite direction (underside facing out) and put it back in its box for about an hour. Then I unrolled it on the desk and it was basically flat. There are no visible creases and, importantly, the gorgeous stitched edges stay perfectly flat on the desk surface. This mat is well worth the extra couple of dollars over the cost of any of the PU leather mats; it is far superior in terms of appearance, quality, and comfort (and no creases or curling!). If you use a wedge to incline your laptop as I do, the front edge of the laptop will be sitting against the cloth-weave surface which will not scratch or abrade the laptop underside.
