This CAC Reader is compact and perfect for a tablet or smartphone.  It works with Windows, Android and IOS devices.  It works fine with Windows 8 & 8.1 out of the box with no software installation necessary.  You will need to download a third party app such as the one by published by Thursby if you intend to use this reader with on a platform other than Windows.  Neither Apple nor Android support Smart Card authentication without the aid of a third party application.
