**Q: What drive is in the casing?**
A: It's an OEM drive, in my case it identifies itself as WDC WD20SMRW-59YNDS0. Couldn't find anything online when I searched, but it's a 5400rpm drive so definitely the "black" here is pure marketing. As are performances, I assume it has a bit of cache as I could reach the claimed speeds on a drive benchmark test, but in normal use speeds are just on par with any external 5400rpm disk.

**Q: Is this smr or cmr?**
A: It's a device managed SMR drive inside

**Q: Is there any physical difference between the pc and xbox versions? is it faster and more reliable than the wd my book?**
A: The 12TB Game Drive is faster than most external drives. Using it on a USB3.0 port I get 200 to 250MB/s. If you only get 80MB/s something is wrong, or you have it in a USB2 port. Most other external drives only achieve about 100MB/s.

**Q: can this be used with a pc/laptop or is this made for just xbox?**
A: I've not used it with a PC, but the data sheet says it's compatible with Windows 8.1 and 10, so I don't see why not.
It's not the cheapest or fastest portable drive available, but for an Xbox owner, the (limited availability) 2 month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate voucher made it a good offer.

SO I bought this and I dont own an xbox. Heres why. Inside the 12tb D10 is a Western Digital DC HC520 drive. I quick google of said drive will reveal this is an enterprise grade drive. Coupled with it being on offer for two hundred notes means that when on offer this is a bargain. I stripped the drive out and gave my nas a handy boost. Bit about it as an external drive. The case is plastic fantastic which is disappointing at this price point. Its chunky though and has a small fan. I'll likely reuse the case with an old drive. Either way the drive that came with it is a beast. Very fast with a low margin of error and built to last. The drives literally run all day every day in data centres so will be more than enough for your games collection. The real limit here on performance is the USB interface. Again perfect for games or as an external drive but a true sata connection sets it free.
